UK govt making tentative progress on int'l travel - official

British Transport Secretary Grant Shapps stated on Friday the United Kingdom's government had been making "tentative progress" on international travel and that "people can start to think about visiting loved ones abroad."

Shapps told Sky News the authorities were doing a "constant review" of the situation concerning the COVID-19 pandemic in each country with the goal of putting them into categories based on health conditions there and creating prerequisites for traveling to and returning from those territories. He added he was "not telling people they shouldn't book foreign holidays" but advised them to wait for another two or three weeks until each country had been categorized.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the public needed to be realistic about the government's decisions concerning resuming international travel from and to Britain, warning that "we need to be prudent at this stage."
