UK publishes 29 papers on hard Brexit

The Government of the United Kingdom released on Friday 29 documents describing the effects of a no-deal Brexit on the economy, trade, ecology and other areas of life.

Trading gas with the European Union, commercial fishing, consumer rights, sanctions policy and existing free trade agreements are among the topics covered by the guidance. All documents refer to hard Brexit as an "unlikely" scenario.

When it comes to free trade deals after March 2019, London will seek to "bring into force bilateral UK-third country agreements." The guidance added: "These new agreements will replicate existing EU agreements and the same preferential effects with third countries as far as possible, whilst making the technical changes needed to ensure the agreements operate in a bilateral context." Additionally, the government's intention is that they are identical or almost the same as the EU agreements they replace.
