UK trade deficit down to £3.5B in quarter to May

The United Kingdom's total trade deficit, excluding non-monetary gold and other precious metals, contracted by £2.2 billion in the three months ending with May 2021 to stand at £3.5 billion, the Office for National Statistics said in a report published on Friday.

Imports fell by £0.5 billion, or 1.4%, while exports rose by £1.3 billion, or 4.9%, the report noted. The goods trade deficit narrowed to £8.5 billion, while the services trade surplus slid by £0.2 billion, the data revealed.

The report was issued with a delay due to the previously announced "error in the UK trade data."
