Major stock markets in the United States closed higher on Thursday, as investors were bolstered by President Joe Biden's assurances that there will be no shutdowns over the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Federal Reserve officials came out in favor of a faster tapering process, with some noting that the central bank needs to start planning interest rate hikes due to high inflation.

The Dow Jones ended the day 1.82% or 620 points higher, led by Boeing rising 7.54%. The Nasdaq 100 was up by 0.71% at the closing bell, with Okta gaining 11.66%. The S&P 500 finished 1.42% in the green, as Kroger Co jumped 11.04%. The euro stood flat against the dollar trading for $1.12978 at 4:02 pm ET.
