US designates CCP body as China's foreign mission

United States State Department announced on Wednesday it had designated the National Association for China's Peaceful Unification (NACPU), one of the organizations within the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) United Front Work Department (UFWD), as a foreign mission "seeking to spread Beijing's malign influence" and "propaganda overseas."

"The goal of this action is to shine a light on this organization and make clear that their messages come from Beijing," its statement read. "Authentic people-to-people exchanges are crucial for establishing understanding between cultures, but the UFWD is not a vehicle for people-to-people exchange. [...] Our actions today move us a step closer toward a relationship with the PRC [People's Republic of China] based on transparency and reciprocity."

Earlier in the day, the country's Department of Justice announced it had pressed charges against eight individuals over "acting as agents" for China as part of Beijing's anti-corruption campaign "Operation Fox Hunt."
