US housing starts up by 6.3% in June

Housing starts in the United States increased by 6.3% in June when compared to the previous month, data published by the US Census Bureau showed on Tuesday. The seasonally adjusted annual rate climbed to 1,643,000, which is a 29.1% annual gain.

Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits declined 5.1% month-over-month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,598,000. However, the figure is still a 23.3% uptick compared to the previous year.

Privately-owned housing completions marked a monthly drop of 1.5%, but a 6.5% yearly incline, to reach a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,324,000. At the same time, the June rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 416,000.
