US initial jobless claims up by 12,000 to 1.43 million

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending July 25 increased by 12,000 compared to the previous week's revised figure to land at 1,434,000, US Labor Department reported on Thursday. The increase in jobless claims was lower than analysts had expected.

Meanwhile, the advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate stood at 11.6% for the week ending July 18, rising by 0.5 percentage points compared to the previous week's unrevised rate. Insured unemployment during the same week grew by 867,000 to 17,018,000. The four-week moving average landed at 17,058,250, decreasing by 435,500 compared to the week prior.
