US invests $100M to ramp up J&J vaccine production

White House senior advisor Andy Slavitt announced during a briefing on Wednesday that the United States government has invested $100 million to support scaling up the manufacturing of the COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson and Merck partenrship.

The allocated funding will allow doubling the production of J&J vaccine, which is a single-dose vaccine recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Slavitt said that Merck facilities will be adapted to new manufacturing by May.

Johnson & Johnson and Merck & Co. rival companies agreed to engage in joint production of coronavirus vaccine in order to accelerate jab manufacturing. With the third vaccine available, every adult in America will be offered a shot by May.
