US July inflation unchanged from previous month at 5.4%

The United States Consumer Product Index for all items in the country remained increased 5.4% when compared to the same month last year, according to a report published by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday.

On a monthly basis, the figure increased by 0.5%. Meanwhile, the indexes for shelter, food, energy, and new vehicles all increased in July, contributing to the overall monthly increase. The food index was up by 0.7%, while the energy index and the gasoline index gained 1.6% and 2.4% respectively.

Lastly, the index for all items less food and energy inclined 0.3% in July, with indexes for personal care, medical care, recreation, shelter, and new vehicles increasing this month. However, the index for motor vehicle insurance and for airline fares dropped this month.
