US retail sales up by 0.5% in March

Retail and food services sales in the United States saw a monthly rise of 0.5% to come in at $665.7 billion in March, just slightly below market expectations, the US Census Bureau stated in its report published on Thursday. On an annual level, the figure went up by 6.9%.

Total sales for the three-month period ending March 2022 advanced by 12.9% in comparison to the same timeframe in 2021. Meanwhile, sales in retail trade grew by 0.4% month-on-month and 5.5% year-on-year.

The Census Bureau also revised February's headline figure to $662.4 billion.
