US Senate votes against selling arms to Saudis

The United States Senate voted on Thursday for the second resolution against $8 billion worth of arms sales to Saudi Arabia, which President Donald Trump is seeking to go ahead by sidestepping congressional review.

The resolution was approved 53-45, with some Republicans voting in disagreement with Trump. Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnel called on senators to oppose the motion. "Let’s not cut ourselves off from our partners... Let’s not undercut the administration at a time of such delicate diplomacy," he stated.

In May, it was reported that Trump wants to declare an emergency in order to fulfill deliveries in 22 deals with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other customers.
