Wall Street opens higher as markets close 2023 first quarter
Major US stock markets opened in the green territory in the last trading session of the week, as the markets close the first quarter of 2023. On a year-to-date basis, the Dow closes the quarter down almost 1%, while the Nasdaq is up almost 19%, and the S&P 500 is higher by more than 5%.
In other news, yesterday, former President Donald Trump was indicted by a grand jury, making the first time an ex-president was charged with a crime. On the other side, Virgin Orbit was trading down by 45% in the premarket after failing to secure funding and halting its operations until the "foreseeable future."
At 9:30 am ET, the Dow Jones gained 0.43% or 152 points, with Caterpillar rising 1.06%. The Nasdaq 100 added 0.12%, Enphase was leading the gains, improving by 1.70%. Two minutes later, the S&P 500 rose 0.35%. On the currency front, the euro was down by 0.23% against the dollar at 9:28 am ET, selling for $1.08800.
