WH: No gasoline shortage despite pipeline cyberattack

The United States Homeland Security Advisor Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall stated during the White House briefing that currently there is no reported gasoline supply shortage following the cyberattack of the Colonial Pipeline company. However, the US Department of Energy is analyzing potential damage and the effect it can have on fuel prices.

Sherwood-Randall also shared that Colonial Pipeline told the federal authorities it "has not suffered damage and can be brought back online relatively quickly", but the company is prioritizing safety given it's never taken the entire pipeline down before.

Should the supply shortage occur, the authorities are coming up with a plan to quickly and efficiently move the supplies to areas in deficit. Additionally, the government launched an inter-agency task force to address the ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline and collaborate with private sector partners over cybersecurity.
